Families as Learning Partners (FLP)

Families as Learning Partners (FLP) allows you to visit your child's classroom to view and participate in aspects of your child's day. This opportunity will take place a few times during the year. This Fall, the FLP focus is on the Morning Meeting. Morning Meetings are a daily routine in which each of your children participates, and we can't wait for you to learn more about them from your child's classroom teacher.

True Colors Club (TCC)

At PS 261, we are proud to have an active LGBTQ+ club called True Colors. The club creates a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ students and their allies. TCC promotes understanding, empathy, and acceptance among all students. True Colors is committed to fostering a school environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of gender identity. We believe in celebrating diversity and teaching our students the importance of kindness and inclusion. We welcome all LGBTQ+ students, families, staff, and allies. Students may come without their families, but families are always welcome to join.

Character Parade

Join us for the beloved PS 261 Character Parade on October 25th at 8:45 am! The Character Parade celebrates book characters, so children and the teachers dress as their favorite literary characters; some classes will choose themes, so please check in with the teachers. This is a classic walk-around-the-block situation. The kids are adorable, and the parents take lots of pics. This event was brought to our school by parents like you and continues with the love and support of our staff. We are always looking for musical support from the community. If you have rhythm and love joyful things, consider joining the 261 Character Parade rhythm circle! If you have a drum or percussion instrument handy? Then bring it along! And if you don't, we will provide one for you. Every year, we gather on the turf in the schoolyard and create the background beat for this groovy parade.

Email hweston@schools.nyc.gov if interested, and say YES! Let's continue this fun PS 261 tradition together!
